Heart-breaking story - I cannot even imagine the pain you went through or the scars that were left, and in the same way that you cried when reading the story about the boy from Rutgers, my own heart broke over the torment, pain, and suffering you had to endure.
I look at what happened to Tyler as typical of the kind of behavior that has been going on unchecked for a long time in our society. Bullying - hating - the inability to accept others - "the tendency to denigrate, to mock, to deride, to disdain" others starts with a permissiveness that has been allowed to continue unfettered by adults (parents, teachers, educators, leaders), and won't stop until each of us makes a concerted effort to change what's happening around us. Like you, I plan to commit myself to being part of the solution - to finding the actions and words to make a difference, and hope more choose to do the same....to being one of those who will stand up and say, "This is wrong. We need to fix this."

Thanks Joe. For having the courage to say something and for taking a stand.

Tyler Clementi's story is horrible, and yours is truly awful, too. Those who can stand back and be objective realize that the social culture of the U.S. is deeply sick and destructive to nearly everyone. It's all connected: bullying, raping and torturing, and invading sovereign nations. If only entire countries could be psychoanalyzed and then treated. Next best thing is our writers.
